Bugenske's research project is with peer, Emma Dester. Their poster focused on research of a new disease detection technique using magnetic nanoparticles specifically targeted for resource-poor areas needing rapid detection methods. In the United States, it is easy to see diseases like dengue virus and TB as virtually non-issues; however, in many developing countries, they are still prevalent. Early detection and treatment is essential for reducing these deaths, so a test that is easy to perform, cost-effective, and rapid, is of the utmost importance
