Research can be an integral part of one’s undergraduate experience because it helps you discover real-lie applications. We highly recommend that all undergraduate students seek out research at one point on another.

Dester’s research project was completed together with peer Abbey Bugenske. Their poster focused on research of a new disease detection technique using magnetic nanoparticles specifically targeted for resource-poor areas needing rapid detection methods. In the United States, it is easy to see diseases like dengue virus and TB as virtually non-issues; however, in many developing countries, they are still prevalent. Early detection and treatment is essential for reducing these deaths, so a test that is easy to perform, cost-effective, and rapid, is of the utmost importance
