Research can be an integral part of one’s undergraduate experience because it helps you discover real-lie applications. We highly recommend that all undergraduate students seek out research at one point on another.

Biosystems & Mechanical Engineering

Research Topic: Diagnostic Test for Detection of Pathogens Graduation Year: 2021

Dester’s research project was completed together with peer Abbey Bugenske. Their poster focused on research of a new disease detection technique using magnetic nanoparticles specifically targeted for resource-poor areas needing rapid detection methods. In the United States, it is easy to see diseases like dengue virus and TB as virtually non-issues; however, in many developing countries, they are still prevalent. Early detection and treatment is essential for reducing these deaths, so a test that is easy to perform, cost-effective, and rapid, is of the utmost importance
