2018 Grand Prize Recipients

• Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts Grand Prize: Nicole Jedding, America's Drug Crises: Transition from a Criminal Justice Matter to a Public Safety Problem
• Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Grand Prize: Amy Freeland, Docosahexaenoic Acid Consumption Blocks Silica-Triggered Autoimmune Responses in the Kidneys and Lungs of Lupus-Prone Mice

The 7th annual Mid-Michigan Symposium for Undergraduate Research Experiences (Mid-SURE) brought together undergraduate students from diverse academic disciplines to share their research and creative activities with the university community. A total of 384 students participated in Mid-SURE, which included 211 MSU students and 173 visiting students working with MSU faculty over the summer.  The visiting students represented 107 different institutions. Students were mentored by 376 MSU faculty members representing 64 departments and 10 colleges.

The 19th annual UURAF had 924 students present research conducted with over 500 faculty mentors.

2017 Grand Prize Recipients

The 6th annual Mid-Michigan Symposium for Undergraduate Research Experiences (Mid-SURE) brought together undergraduate students from diverse academic disciplines to share their research and creative activities with the university community. A total of 370 students participated in Mid-SURE, which included 195 MSU students and 175 visiting students working with MSU faculty over the summer.  The visiting students represented 116 different institutions. Students were mentored by 359 MSU faculty members representing 66 departments and 11 colleges.

The 18th annual University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF) was held on Friday, April 8. The event was very successful with nearly 900 students from 14 MSU colleges and over 500 faculty mentors from 16 MSU colleges participating in this year’s forum. Students presented 665 different programs, which included 120 oral presentations and 545 poster presentations.

The 5th annual summer undergraduate research forum, called Mid-SURE (Mid-Michigan Symposium for Undergraduate Research Experiences), was held on Wednesday, July 22 at the Breslin Center. Mid-SURE brings together undergraduate students from diverse academic disciplines to present their research in an academic setting. Students present posters to the university community and receive constructive feedback from faculty and graduate students on their research and presentation abilities. A total of 331 students participated in Mid-SURE, which included 172 MSU students and 159 visiting students working with MSU faculty over the summer.  The visiting students represented 118 different institutions. Approximately 354 faculty members mentored these students on their projects.

Nearly 750 students from 14 MSU colleges and 400 faculty mentors from 16 MSU colleges participating in the 2015 Forum. Students presented 518 different programs, which included 90 oral presentations and 428 poster presentations. The program book and a complete list of award winners can be found below.

Approximately 294 students participated in Mid-SURE, which included 157 MSU students and 137 visiting students working with MSU faculty.  The visiting students represented 87 different institutions, including seven historically Black college and universities.  Approximately 264 faculty members mentored these students on their projects.  This event represents an opportunity for MSU to recruit quality students to its graduate programs.  Approximately 26 graduate programs from 21 different institutions (3 from MSU) attended the forum and interacted with students

The Mid-Michigan Symposium for Undergraduate Research Experiences (Mid-SURE) brought together undergraduate students from diverse academic disciplines to present their research in an academic setting. Students presented posters to the university community, and received constructive feedback from faculty and graduate students on their research and presentation abilities. A total of 263 students participated in Mid-SURE, including 108 visiting students from 75 different institutions. Approximately 264 faculty members mentored these students on their projects.

A total of 236 students participated in SURF, including 76 visiting summer students from 58 different institutions. Approximately 219 faculty members from 58 departments in 12 different colleges mentored these students on their projects.
