Research Summary:
Trinity's research focuses on raising awareness and advocating for youth voices by examining adolescents' and young adults' knowledge, beliefs, and experiences regarding fentanyl exposure and access. The study utilized the MyVoice nationwide text message poll, which asked 14–24-year-olds five open-ended questions about their understanding of fentanyl, exposure sources, and views on Narcan (Naloxone). Responses were analyzed using qualitative content analysis, creating a codebook to guide the process. The findings revealed that youth encountered fentanyl through medical prescriptions, illicit drug dealers, illegal sales, friends and family, and accidental exposure. The data is being reported to policymakers, stakeholders, and the community to improve awareness and protection strategies.
