Research Topic: 22Na Decay Following Classical Nova Nucleosynthesis

Research Poster Located in the Neighborhood Engagement Centers

Research Summary:

Chloe's Research focused on advancing our understanding of classical novae nucleosynthesis by studying the rates at which radioactive 22Na is produced and destroyed. The goal was to set benchmarks for the sensitivity of gamma-ray telescopes in detecting 22Na decay, which could help refine existing models. Using a 24Mg beam, reactions with specially prepared targets generated gamma-ray emissions that were analyzed to identify contaminants. The research also determined the 3He content in each target, ultimately selecting the optimal target for future experiments. This work lays the groundwork for more accurate observations and improved models in the field.
