Research Topic: Does light intensity have an effect on female mice's reproductive system? Graduation Year: 2025

Undergraduate Research in the Neighborhoods

The goal of Krystal Jang’s project was to determine if light intensity has an effect on female mice's reproductive system. By utilizing a mouse model, Jang manipulated the intensity of the light in a controlled chamber and collected data by obtaining their terminal (tail) blood and measuring for the two female sex hormones: luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Jang is still in the process of obtaining data and therefore does not have any results yet; however, expected findings are provided. There have been findings that correlate lower reproductive success during the winter months compared to summer months as the amount of sunlight received significantly decreases during the winter months. This research can provide a potential therapeutic treatment and easily accessible solution to increasing fertility in women.
